St. George's Park

The steep rising ground north of downtown hindered development of this area until the 1850s.   The area was known early on as "Horsman's Hil" after John Horsman, a local business owner, who built a stately home at the crest of Grange Street.   The St. George's Park neighbourhood boasts some of the city's finest estate homes such as Wyoming, Gilnockie, Tyrcathlen and Maplebank.
